Somebody Call K-9-1-1

Headline: Dog Performs 'Heimlich' on Choking Owner

Toby, a 2-year-old golden retriever, saw his owner choking on a piece of fruit and began jumping up and down on the woman's chest. The dog's owner believes the dog was trying to perform the Heimlich maneuver and saved her life.

That's amazing. I can pretty much guess my dog wouldn't have done the same thing. She would've thought I was a giant squeaky toy and assumed it was time to play. And no doubt she would've walked off and found something else to do once the squeaking stopped.

That woman was very lucky to have such a smart dog. Mine didn't make it past the infant CPR class, much less learn the Heimlich. I still owe them money for the ripped up dolls. Stupid dog.

When reporters asked Toby to describe the ordeal, he paws'd for a moment and simply said ruff.

Are you sure it was a piece of fruit and not a barking fragment?

I've actually had dogs who were smart enough to figure out the Heimlich maneuver, and human friends who weren't. Perhaps your dog could use a refresher course?

that's a pretty amazing story, actually...and St. Bernards always get the "heroic tale" love...I had one and he pulled a friend of mine out of the road when a car was coming, and he chased a burglar out of our house. Do they have medals to dogs? lol

Okay. I'm sure your dog can take a CPR refresher course in air conditioning.

What if the dog was vengeful instead of helpful. Maybe he was jumping up and down on her and in his mind going "Fetch this!!".
